About Minimally Invasive Spine Specialists

Minimally Invasive Spine Specialists is a group of medical professionals dedicated to providing the most advanced medical and surgical care for all conditions affecting the spine. The practice focuses on medical and surgical techniques that provide minimally invasive treatments for all conditions affecting the spine, as well as traditional surgeries when appropriate. We work on referral from other physicians, to provide comprehensive care for conditions from acute and chronic low back and neck pain, to degenerative conditions, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, tumors, scoliosis, infections, and spinal trauma.

Minimally Invasive Spine Treatment
At Minimally Invasive Spine Specialists, we perform both traditional surgeries and minimally invasive techniques, based on our recommendation for, and the patients choice of medical treatment.

Our Facilities
Our facilities reflect our commitment to both our patients, and to providing cutting-edge medical care. Our main office is located in Mokena, IL.

Our doctors perform surgery at several hospitals in the south suburbs of Chicago and in northwest Indiana. Additionally, Dr. Sweeney is the founder of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Mokena, Illinois, just opened in the summer of 2002. The Center offers a state-of-the-art facility in which to perform outpatient procedures.

Dr. Sweeney founded Minimally Invasive Spine Specialists, which now has expanded to include Raymond E. Hines III, PA-C.

Pain Management
To ensure that our patients have the highest quality of life possible, we work closely with many prominent pain management specialists in the area.

Our Patients
We provide comprehensive medical and surgical care to adolescents and adults for conditions from acute and chronic low back and neck pain, to degenerative conditions, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, tumors, scoliosis, infections, and spinal trauma. Our patients fall into all age groups, from adolescents to seniors, and from all walks of life. Some have suffered chronic conditions for years, while others have been recently injured or diagnosed.

Pioneering Technology
Minimally Invasive Spine Specialists is privileged to be among an elite group of surgical practices across the country to have access to new technologies as they are being developed.

Our extraordinary investment in technology and continuing education and training gives our patients a head-start on recovery; we firmly believe that everyone should have access to the technologies and techniques now available that have significantly reduced typical recovery times following spine surgery.

The practice has continually brought new surgical techniques to the Chicago and south suburban Chicago area that are now in widespread usage.

Currently, MISpine is one of only ten sites in the United States using GE FLUOROTRAK ™ 3500 for Spine and Orthopedic Procedures. (Link to the PDF brochure on Fluorotrack “fluorotrak.pdf”). As procedures become less invasive, visualization of the surgical anatomy becomes more difficult. That challenge is offset by this new technology. FluoroTrak not only improves, but expands the surgeon’s field of view, by using two fluoroscopic images acquired at the beginning of the procedure. The system provides the surgeon with the ability to track the location and orientation of the surgical instruments, while communicating critical visual information. With FluoroTrak, the need for repetitive imaging is reduced, which in turn reduces exposure to the surgeon, staff, and the patient. For more information on this technology, visit www.gemedical.com.

We are also working in close collaboration with GE Medical Systems, acting as one of only three sites in the U.S. field testing the FluoroCAT system. By serving as a field test site, we are able to influence the design and engineering of new surgical technologies before they are brought to the market.
